The Three Amigos

Not quite See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil, but getting them all simultaneously still and looking the same direction is a huge victory.

It’s All Black & White

I’ve been playing with some black and white conversions and thought these three were kind of interesting.

Floating Island

Follow the shore to the floating island

Follow the shore to the floating island

I found an outlier from the workshop.  I love the sweeping curve of the shore and the way the sky blends with the water.

The Hunter

Orion the Hunter

Orion the Hunter

Orion was watching over the yard a few nights ago.  The clouds are lit by a little town a few miles to the south.

Eclipse

Eclipse with twin

I had a few spare minutes to try and capture the eclipse through the trees in my backyard. Even with a 10 stop filter, it was still too bright to get a sharp sun, but I had the bonus of an internal reflection that mirrored the sun.  I like it.

2014 Fall Color Workshop – Colors

Awesome Colors

Awesome Colors

I attended Bryan Hansel’s Fall Color Photography Workshop the last week of September. We had terrific weather and couldn’t have had a better workshop. Everyone in the group got some fantastic. images. I got so many good shots I had to really push to get sets ready to post even in three weeks.

Just because the trip went so well I’m posting a lot of shots, so they’re broken down into 4 posts – this one and the three previous.

I highly recommend Bryan’s workshops. You can be guaranteed of getting some great shots and learning something.

We trolled the inland back roads for shots under the canopy and also hiked to some overlooks.  The colors were so good it was hard to get bad shots.  I’m really pleased.

2014 Fall Color Workshop – Sunrise/Sunset

Purple dawn awesomeness

Purple dawn awesomeness

We got some fantastic sunrises on the shore of Lake Superior.  The rocky shoreline makes for some dramatic compositions. The sunsets were less vivid but we still got some great shots.

2014 Fall Color Workshop – Night

Fear my power for it spans the galaxy!

Fear my power for it spans the galaxy!

We had to reschedule our night session due to clouds.  We were rewarded with a dead calm, crystal clear night.  As a huge bonus we were treated to one of the best northern light shows I’ve ever seen.  We shot 3 different locations and it was all good. It was a long day though: up at 5:00AM for sunrise and we got back to the hotel after the night session close to 2:30AM!  It was worth it but needless to say there was no sunrise session the next morning.

2014 Fall Color Workshop – Abstracts

Into the Maple Store

Into the Maple Store

I played with a bunch of abstracts. Its easy and fun.  I can’t do in-camera double exposures so I was limited to zooms and camera movement during exposure but I still got a bunch I liked.

Bloody Moonday

It's dark up here...

It’s dark up here…

Not much to say.  I need a longer lens – this is hugely cropped.  I also lost the battle and had to give up on getting a tack sharp focus – I don’t know what that was all about.  I like this shot anyway.
