Simply Marvelous

I finally pulled the trigger on a marvelous 70-200mm lens this spring.  Testing that on a marvelous flower that came up next to our driveway gave me a marvelous image.

Pretty Girl

I was playing around with a cheap manual flash and homemade reflector.  Does a pretty good job.

Abstract Lines

I was looking into at a large tree that leans out and overhangs the yard.  Thought the patterns were interesting.

I played around with a couple and found you get a horror movie dreamy look by taking the clarity all the way down.

Ice

I tried to capture the way the woods were glowing after an ice storm coated everything.  Turns out that’s pretty difficult, but this shot is kind of cool.

Snow Mountains

It’s not exactly Yosemite valley but the middle one does look a little like Half Dome.  (Or maybe I’m just high and it a stupid snow pile.)

At least the dogs like playing in their mountains.

Harley in the Snow

One of Harley’s favorite things is having snow thrown in his face.  One afternoon I found out it’s kind of challenging to work the camera with one hand, try to keep the dog in frame, throw snow with the other hand and time the shot all at once.  I did get a few good ones though.

Winter Wonderland?

It’s been a very mild winter: pretty warm, hardly any snow, etc.  Even so, I need to keep the mailbox clear in case someone wants to send me money or something.

Northern Sunsets

The weather was challenging on the last camping trip but I was still lucky enough to catch some nice sunsets.   I discovered Esther Lake this trip.  It has a wonderful little rock point to watch a sunset from or just hang out on.  Fabulous spot.

Spent some time at Ninemile Lake again as well.  I had some dramatic clouds a couple nights and wonderful color the last night. Overall I managed a nice collection of images.

Sun Dogs

It was colder than hell a few days ago and the wind was stirring up a lot of ice crystals. That brought out the best sun dogs I’ve ever seen.  I wish I’d had my good camera with, but even my phone got a great capture.

More Waterfalls (finally)

The 2013 expedition began with a massive rainstorm that brought flash floods and lifted the rivers to spring flood stage or higher.  My first stop was one of my favorite spots on the Temperance river and it was basically underwater.

I stopped back the next day and it was even worse

I think I prefer low water because there’s more texture to shoot.  Still, it slowly subsided and I did get some nice shots later in the week.
