Accidental Goodness

The Monkeyhound

Chiku, the Monkeyhound

Every once in a while I accidentally get the light the way I want it.  Here I had afternoon sun and the pup actually held still where the reflections off the snow softened the shadows nicely.  As a  bonus she gave me a good look.

Global Warming

Fully global warming resistant

I was screwing around one day and decided to see if Ruby will survive global warming when it kicks in. Looks like she’ll do just fine.

2012 Waterfalls

"Secret" waterfall

“Secret” waterfall

Unfortunately I only had one chance to go camping last summer.  The previous sunsets post came from that trip though and I did get some nice waterfalls as well.  As a bonus, I talked to a trout fisherman who was able to give me directions to a wonderful little fall that’s not on any map.  The shot above comes from that fall and I’ll definitely be going back.

More Dogs

Did some prints of the dogs and thought they were nice enough to post here as well.

It’s All Subjective

Fascinating…

I took Ruby out with me to drive around country roads looking for anything interesting to shoot.  Found an abandoned farm complete with an old outhouse.  She wouldn’t do the pose again for me with my real camera, but at least I got this one with my phone.  Quality is bad but the subject matter is still great. 😉

Sunsets

Golden Sunset

The end of a golden day

Got out on my first camping trip of the year a few weeks ago.  Had 3 different nights where the sunsets were great.  I got a ton of good shots and had a hard time picking a subset for the slide show. There are some varied looks but I think they all look pretty good.

Re-seeing a shot

I recently participated in a photo critique class.  With this picture it was suggested it may have been better if I had used a graduated filter to darken the sky. Well, I can’t shoot it over, but Lightroom had a grad filter I could play with.  I have to agree on the critique – I think the second version is much more dramatic.

Yard Flowers

Minnesota winters can be long and brutal.  Even in a year when it’s unbelievably mild like this one, the world still gets monochrome and dreary after a while.  We have a lot of flowers in our yard so there’s a lot of shots to be had.  Here’s some color to break it up before spring finally gets here.

Dogs

Chiku the Lion Hunter

The dogs told me it was about time I got some pictures of them posted. These are all from 2011. We have two Dobermans and a Rhodesian Ridgeback.  Quite the handfull but fortunately they have room to run in the back yard.

Fall Colors

Gold on the Honeymoon Trail

October 2011

This trip was all about shooting fall colors.  The color was pretty spotty, but where it was peaking, it was utterly spectacular. Got a lot of shots I really like. The slideshow is big and I had trouble narrowing down to what I did post.

I learned the biggest problem with fall is that the days are already getting short. There isn’t a lot of time to hike or drive around searching for color – you pretty much have to work whatever is nearby.  Fortunately, the Honeymoon Trail was insanely gold providing plenty of opportunity.
